Elder Abuse Charges

Older adults are often reliant on their children for care as they age. Elder abuse laws were enacted to protect older adults from mental, physical, or financial harm. Elder abuse can include forms of physical or emotional abuse, willful neglect or endangerment, and financial abuse.

Penalties for Elder Abuse

Elder abuse can be charged as either a misdemeanor or felony, depending on contributing factors. Misdemeanors are punishable by up to 1 year in jail. Felony elder abuse can result in 2-4 years in prison.
